Various dates/years listed for birth, but death date was Dec 1925. At 16 he was an apprentice in a carriage shop in Akron, OH. He relocated to Owensboro in 1887 and in 1891 established the Carriage Woodstock Co. By 1904, it had added "Ames Buggy" which manufactured 40 specific types and styles of passenger vehicles, many with silver and gold trim. In 1909, a two-story addition was added to manufacture the Ames Automobile. In 1911, he re-organized the Carriage Woodstock Co into the F. A. Ames Co. and soon added firms called "Ames Motor Car Co" and the "Ames Buddy Corp".
