Raine's Shoe Hospital
The Raine's Shoe Hospital building we all knew of was built in mid 1906 and was actually two different stores. The north side was a wallpaper and novelty store, and the south side was a barbershop ran by Victor Matthews.
WA Raines bought the existing (Gipe) shoe repair shop in Sept of 1941.
It's clear there are more advertisements behind the plaster, I'd love to know what they were, and if they were preserved (like the Coca-Cola sign over on the 200 block of Allen St. The Coty bar, a few buildings north was the only place in the early days here to sell Schlitz Beer.
The building was demolished June of 2020.
